The steam train TrenoNatura in Autumn 2013: here’s the programme!

THE 2013 STEAM TRAIN PROGRAMME CAME TO AN END. THE TRAIN OF BYGONE TIMES WILL BE BACK IN SPRING 2014 WITH NEW ENCHANTING ITINERARIES AND ADVENTURES.

The popular Steam Train of the Sienese Crete concluded its Spring season last May, and will be back in October, after the summer break. In fact, every year, the itineraries on the train are scheduled in Spring and Autumn,  in combination with feasts, markets, fairs and other important events related to the products and traditions of the Sienese territory.

The first excursion is planned on October 13th, when the train will reach the nice hamlet of Vivo D’Orcia for the feast dedicated to the delicious porcini mushrooms: a great opportunity to run through the splendid Valdorcia and the Crete on board of this historic means of transportation: the train will stop at Sant’Angelo Scalo and from there the passengers will take a bus to the destination; then the train will be back on October 20th to lead the passengers to the small station of Monte Amiata Scalo: from there, passengers will get by bus Abbadia San Salvatore, on the Mount Amiata, for the celebrations of the main product of this territory and season: chestnuts! Beyond the feast, the passengers will have the possibility to visit the Museum of the old mine, the Abbey from which the hamlet takes its name, and the historic centre.

Chestnuts will be also celebrated on November 3rd in Piancastagnaio, still on the Mount Amiata, that will be reached by bus from the Station of Monte Amiata Scalo, where the train will await its passengers to go back to Siena. On November 10th the train will get San Giovanni D’Asso for the renowned White Truffle market. We went there last year and we enjoyed this experience really much:here’s the full post!

On December 1st the train will lead its passengers again to the Mount Amiata for the Feast of the new olive oil and the Christmas markets; another feast dedicated to the new olive oil will be the one organized in the charming San Quirico d’Orcia on December 8th: the train will reach Torrenieri and from there the passengers will take a bus to get San Quirico. The last trip in 2013 will take the passengers from Fabro, in the Umbria region, and Chiusi-Chianciano to Siena on December 15th: a nice opportunity to visit the town, stroll around its streets and make some shopping for the upcoming Christmas.

The steam train will make you spend an enchanting day on board an authentic historic train, with a background noise made of whistles, puffs, squeaks and the pumping of the pistons. A great experience for adults, an unforgettable day for children! For the detailed itineraries, prices and reservations,  http://www.trenonatura.terresiena.it/treno-vapore.html#notizie (in Italian)
